was a French general, later Head of State of
Vichy France, from 1940 to 1944. Due to his
military leadership in World War I, he was viewed
as a hero in France, but his actions during
World War II resulted in him being convicted
and sentenced to death for treason, which was
commuted to life imprisonment by Charles de
Gaulle.

was two years old. Her most famous showpiece
was The Dying Swan choreographed for her by
Michel Fokine, danced to The Swan from Carnival

She died of pleurisy in The Hague, Netherlands

while touring, a few days or weeks before her

singer of popular music, best known as the founding
member of The Beatles. He was usually considered
the "leader" of The Beatles, as he founded the
original group, inviting McCartney to join later,

At 10:50 p.m. on 8 December 1980, Mark David
Chapman shot and fatally wounded him in front
of his residence.
