British actor.
He found fame starring as Mahatma Gandhi in
the Academy Award-winning film Gandhi in 1982.
He was critically acclaimed and won the Academy
Award for Best Actor for the role.
He has avoided stereotyping and has been cast
in a variety of roles.
In 1997, he provided voice acting for the video
game Ceremony of Innocence. In July 2006, he
received an Emmy nomination for his performance
in the TV movie Mrs. Harris.

in Casablanca, Morocco, then a french protectorate,
to Spanish Andalusian parents, who had moved
to North Africa to escape the dictatorship of
Francisco Franco. He moved to France at the
age of twelve. He is a French actor of Spanish
descent.
Working in both French and English, he has appeared
in numerous successful Hollywood productions,
but also European productions such as the 2005
Italian film 'The Tiger And The Snow'.
His career began in French movies, where he
appeared in many of Luc Besson's films, two
of which brought huge success for him as well:
The Big Blue (1988), and Léon (1994) with Natalie
Portman, known as The Professional in the United
States. He plays Captain Bezu Fache in the 2006
major motion picture, The Da Vinci Code.
